HARONG Paglaom Project

harong-paglaom-logoHARONG PAGLAOM means “Home of Hope”, because home is where one feels the love of family and friends, and the healing embrace of God’s love. It is the Diocese of Legazpi’s program of pastoral care for substance users. Its foremost service is a faith-driven, family-oriented community-based rehabilitation (CBR) program. It is a concrete expression of Pope Francis’ call for the Church to be a “field hospital” after battle.
In offering, HARONG PAGLAOM, Bishop Joel Baylon envisions a community of “homes of hope” ready to welcome and accompany recovering substance users towards their hope for fullness of life. It is also a proactive measure to counter the growing menace of the culture of death, fear, and hate in Philippine society today.
HARONG PAGLAOM is first launched on 5 November 2016 as a pilot program for those assessed as “low-to-mild” substance users in Brgy. Rawis, Legazpi City, under the auspices of the Quasi-Parish of St. Joseph. The plan is to eventually mainstream and institutionalize HARONG PAGLAOM as the diocese’s complement to government efforts in the campaign against drug abuse.
The diocese is grateful for the team of Claire Abas, Megs Salando, for the generous gifts of themselves and their expertise as resource persons in training our corps of volunteer recovery coaches.
The diocese partners with local government units, the Philippine National Police, and the Department of Health to complement government efforts at providing CBR to substance users.
